Having to submit my first copy there first is no big deal because the results are far and away the best. After EZA, I submit to many other directories, including articlesbase, but the traffic from there is not nearly as much as from EZA. Another good article directory is Ideamarketers but they are 'the quiet achievers' in the article directory chain. Hope this helps someone else achieve success with articles.
